Supercar gets 100 mpg, hits 200 mph, on biodiesel

After eight years in the making, the Trident Inceni, a British “supercar,” will hit the road—and it will be fueled by biodiesel. Trident has changed certain features on the car over the past eight years, but the version that will be unveiled at a U.K. event in June, an event  that features performance vehicles ranging from Formula One race cars of the 1950s to tanks and helicopters. “The Cholmondeley Pageant of Power is the U.K.’s biggest celebration of power and speed, but that doesn’t mean that new, green technology will go ignored,” stated the event organizers. And it might be impossible to ignore the Trident Inceni car.

The car can reach 200 mph and it can cover 100 miles on a single gallon. The vehicle is a two-seat, futuristic sports car that utilizes a 6.6-liter V8 turbodiesel engine that allows the vehicle to go from zero to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. The Inceni, the company says, can also run on any blend of biodiesel, all the way to B100, and on a full tank the car can travel nearly 2,000 miles. “The excellent fuel economy is achieved through patented technology called torque multiplication,” Trident said, a technology that creates greater torque during periods of high slippage in the gears, and allows the vehicle to idle at two-thirds lower than a normal car, helping to improve the efficiency of the vehicle.

The event in June will take place at Cholmondeley Castle in Malpas, Cheshire, and last year the event was noted as the Best Tourist Event in Cheshire. While tickets for the event will run roughly $20, to buy the Trident Inceni—and with it the car’s ability to run on B100 and travel 2,000 miles on a single tank—will cost $150,000.

In 2009, Nokia ran a series of short programs called Capsule N96, one of which showcased the Inceni. The show’s host noted the car was “as light as a feather” but “solid as a rock,” adding that the automatic gear box for the vehicle sat in the back of the car with the V8 in the front.
