Distribution terminals open in Indiana, Colorado

By | October 01, 2004
New biodiesel-blend distribution terminals have opened up in Peru, Ind., and Alamosa, Colo. Peru's Countrymark Co-op has added a biodiesel unit to its already existing terminal, and Blue Sun Biodiesel built a new terminal in Alamosa.

Dennis Reynolds of Countrymark Co-op told EPM that the Peru facility, which opened in late June 2004, offers B2, B5, B10 and B20 blends. It splash blends automatically. Countrymark has another biodiesel blending terminal in Jolietville, Ind. A third terminal location is being planned at the Switz City, Ind., terminal near Linton on State Route 54.

Countrymark often works in conjunction with the Indiana Soybean Board, which Reynolds said has given Countrymark funding assistance in the past. Reynolds said the latest biodiesel legislation, which will create a biodiesel tax credit (see page 16), "will greatly increase our business."

Blue Sun Biodiesel President and CEO Jeff Probst said the Alamosa facility will provide up to 180,000 gallons of biodiesel per day, which will be delivered via tanker and railroad cars. The state-of-the-art sequential blending facility can load one tanker with pre-blended B20 in approximately 20 minutes, or four tankers in an hour. While the biodiesel blends will primarily be used to fuel government and private fleets, Probst hopes that the new distribution center will prompt the opening of more retail biodiesel fuel stations.
