Ft. Collins, Colo.-based New Belgium Brewing cycled through the Midwest portion of its renowned 13-city, national bicycle festival dubbed the Tour de Fat-aptly named after the brewery's signature Fat Tire beer-and welcomed a generous supply of B100 supplied by Ames, Iowa-based producer Renewable Energy Group Inc. at events hosted in Chicago, Minneapolis and Milwaukee.

REG provided B100 made from corn oil at its 30 MMgy facility in Newton, Iowa, to Fort Dodge, Iowa-based Decker Truck Lines LLC, which served as the event hauler for the Midwest portion of the Tour de Fat.

"We salute New Belgium's leadership in promoting sustainability throughout every step of their procurement, production and distribution system, and are proud that our biodiesel is now one small piece of that sustainability program," said Jeff Stroburg, CEO and chairman of REG.

The tour, now in its 11th season, is intended to spread the positive benefits of bicycling and to showcase New Belgium Brewery's environmentally-sound practices, according to New Belgium's tour impresario Matt Kowal who works at the brewery and produces the festival, emceeing its 13 stops this year across the country.

"New Belgium has made a commitment to using biodiesel made from sustainable sources like waste oils, fats and greases in order to help reduce our corporate carbon footprint by at least 25 percent," Kowal said. "We are pleased that we can continue that commitment by burning Iowa-produced biodiesel produced from another industry's waste stream."
