Team to drive across US on 1 tank of Neste renewable diesel

Neste Oil recently announced that a team of motorsport enthusiasts will drive from Florida’s Atlantic shoreline to California’s Pacific coast on a single tank of NExBTL renewable diesel June 21-26.

“Americans have a long tradition of taking cross-country road trips, sometimes aiming for speed records, sometimes just making a leisurely jaunt,” said Kaisa Hietala, executive vice president of renewable products at Neste. “One team is taking a different approach to this long-distance challenge: drive coast-to-coast on one tank of fuel that is made of completely biobased raw materials. We believe this may be a first time for this type of trip.”

Four-time X Games gold medal winner, three-time U.S. Rallycross champion and two-time Formula Drift champion Tanner Foust is among the group of drivers that also includes Pat O'Keefe, vice president of Golden Gate Petroleum and owner of CLP Motorsports, Luke Lonberger, an experienced motorsports driver and general manager at CLP Motorsports, and Michael von Disterlo, a lead mechanic at CLP Motorsports.

“I'm really excited about the next project I'm doing,” Foust said. “It is NExBTL renewable diesel and we are driving across the entire U.S. with one tank of fuel. It will be an amazing trip.”

The car is a Superlite Coupe (SLC) custom-built by CLP motorsports, featuring a lightweight aluminum monocoque chassis, fiberglass body and a modified Volkswagen 1.9-liter TDI diesel engine.

Starting June 21, the SLC car will drive across the U.S. on Interstate 10, the fourth-longest transcontinental highway in the U.S., which is more than 2,400 miles long. It runs through eight states, starting in Atlantic Beach, Florida, and ending on the Pacific Coast in Santa Monica, California.

In other company news, Neste is introducing Google Drive for Work services to its personnel globally. Google Drive for work enables Neste people to work better from any place and any device. Employees can now meet face-to-face wherever they are by using high-definition video meetings and store with unlimited file storage. Editing, sharing and accessing files is secure from any device.

At the same time, Google is moving forward with use of Neste's NExBTL renewable diesel on selected Google's shuttle buses (gBuses) in Silicon Valley, California.
