Metro Biofuels of Brooklyn, N.Y., secured a supply contract with Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens to deliver its branded biodiesel-blended heating oil, Greenheat, to the longtime television studio founded in 1920. Previously, Kaufman Astoria Studios was using straight residual heating oil (No. 4 and No. 6 fuel oils), but now the studio that's been home to Sesame Street for 17 years and other television shows, movies and commercials, is using 5 percent biodiesel in its residual heating oil.
Metro will supply Kaufman Astoria Studios with 80,000 gallons a year of Greenheat, which amounts to about 4,000 gallons of B100 in the B5 blend.
The president of the studio, Hal Rosenbluth, said, "We decided it was a perfect time to make a change, as we've been looking for ways to green around the complex. The initiative to switch our heating oil fit naturally into our plans and we now have a new heating plant in the studio. We are thrilled to answer the Mayor's call to action for a greener New York by using Metro's biodiesel fuel."
