The seventh annual Sustainable Biodiesel Summit is scheduled for Feb. 6-7 in Grapevine, Texas. Bill Holmberg, longtime champion of biofuels and sustainable new wealth, will be the keynote speaker at the event targeted at community activists, backyard brewers, farmers and others interested in the future of sustainable, community-based biodiesel. The schedule features a series of action-oriented roundtable discussions at a small, local winery, and a trip to Willie's Place at Carl's Corner to visit the truck stop and biodiesel production facility. The summit is scheduled to coincide with the National Biodiesel Board's annual conference and exhibition also being held in Grapevine, Feb. 7-10

From modest beginnings in 2003, the Sustainable Biodiesel Summit has grown to be an annual discussion platform for the movement. At the 2008 summit, the NBB announced the formation of its Sustainability Task Force, with several members recruited from summit participants and organizers.

The 2010 summit is organized through the joint efforts of the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance, Roundtable for Sustainable Biofuels and the National Biodiesel Board, along with volunteers from across the biodiesel industry.

The Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance headquartered in Austin, Texas, focuses on the benefits of community-based, sustainable biodiesel. It published the Baseline Practices for Sustainability, the first guidance document for sustainable biodiesel production in the United States.

The National Biodiesel Board has represented the biodiesel industry since 1992, acting as a trade association and as a coordinating body for research and development. NBB's mission is to create a sustainable biodiesel industry, serve a coordinating entity for technical research, and be a unified voice for its diverse membership base.

The Roundtable for Sustainable Biofuels (RSB) is an international organization based in Switzerland working on a global sustainable labeling platform for biofuels.

Since 2003, the Abundance Foundation, a nonprofit based in Pittsboro, N.C., has been the fiscal sponsor for the summit. In addition to providing logistical support and arranging for Web services, Abundance coordinates the efforts of volunteers organizing the event. The foundation has a mission of local food, renewable fuels, and community development.

Registrations before Jan. 22 are $100, a savings of up to $100 compared to on-site tickets. For more information or to register online, visit http://sustainable-biodiesel.org.
