Mansfield Oil acquires C&N Companies

Mansfield Oil Co. is expanding its biofuel marketing capabilities with the purchase of C&N Companies. "Our acquisition of C&N is a win for producers who need a thriving independent marketing partner with the financial strength to compete in today's tough economy," J. Alexander, president of Mansfield Oil, said. The Georgia-based company saw a 415 percent increase in renewable fuels sales last year in the company's 2 billion-gallon sales volume last year.

The Bloomington, Minn.-based C&N will continue to operate under its name and with its current staff, using the added resources of Mansfield to expand its business. C&N currently represents 500 million gallons of ethanol production and 150 million gallons of biodiesel production capacity. "I welcome this development with open arms and see it as delivering on my promise to create the best marketing possible for producers," said C&N founder Jon Bjornstad. "Mansfield's deep roots with major refiners will give our customers an advantage that they simply can't get anywhere else."

In 2008, Mansfield Oil sold biodiesel in 33 states, according to Dough Haugh, executive vice president of Mansfield. "One-third of our business comes from all levels of government," he explained, saying that out of the 700 government bids last year, a number have a biodiesel option or requirement, although the current pricing situation makes it difficult for biodiesel to compete. "In biodiesel so much of the production right now is shut in. We need to find the right markets so our producers can compete and make a little money," he said.

Ranked number 66 by Forbes, Mansfield Oil is a downstream oil company doing business with nearly all of the refiners in the United States. It operates 650 bulk terminals and 900 supply points in 49 states.
