Thanksgiving chefs can help the environment and biodiesel producers by recycling their turkey fryer oil in several Colorado and Wyoming cities, thanks to Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprises LLC. The grease recycling service is partnering with 13 cities across the Front Range for its second Holiday RecycOil event.

Last year, in the first of what the company expects will be an annual event; nearly 2,000 gallons of waste vegetable oil were dropped off at recycling locations in 10 cities.

"We have partnered with cities to develop awareness on waste oil streams that can go into biodiesel production," said Aaron Perry, chief executive officer of RSME. "They can avoid unnecessary costs from damage or maintenances on sewers or plumbing if it's poured down the drain, or damage to the environment if landfilled."

Residents of the 13 participating communities in Colorado and Wyoming, which include the cities of Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins, are encouraged to bring the oil used in turkey fryers to an oil recycling station Nov. 29.

The company is a developer and owner/operator of liquid waste handling systems, biofuels and feedstock production facilities, as well as vertically integrated biofuel supply chains. RMSE provides a used cooking oil recycling service to more than 2,000 restaurants, commercial food facilities and municipal recycling centers collecting, processing and delivering approximately 80,000 gallons of biodiesel feedstock per month (one million gallons per year).

RMSE is developing a 4.5 MMgy biodiesel plant in Fort Morgan, Colo., which it expects to break ground on in early 2009. The biodiesel plant project received a $500,000 grant from the USDA Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program.
