Norwegian newsprint and magazine paper producer Norske Skog has partnered with Germany-based gasification technology provider Choren Industries GmbH to explore building full-scale, second-generation biodiesel production facilities in Norway, using woody biomass as a feedstock. Earlier this year, Norske Skog organized subsidiary Xynergo to focus on biofuel production with a goal of building one or two full-scale biodiesel production facilities. Choren began construction of its first full-scale, second-generation biodiesel facility in Freiberg, Germany, this year, and it's slated to begin production in 2009.
