In September, Cargill Inc. opened a rapeseed-crushing facility in western France that will produce 250,000 metric tons of oil per year. The oil will supply the French food and biodiesel industries, with a significant volume transferred via pipeline to a biodiesel plant owned by Diester Atlantique, a subsidiary of the French oilseed financing group Sofiproteol. Cargill is the majority shareholder in the crushing facility, which is a result of a partnership with Sofiproteol. Cargill also holds a minority stake in Diester Atlantique.
