Two biodiesel terminals and three retail stations received Iowa Renewable Fuel Infrastructure Program grants that cover up to 70 percent of total expenses, or a maximum of $40,000, for biodiesel dispensers or blender pumps and E85 dispensers or blender pumps.

After a retailer installs their first biodiesel or E85 pump, they are eligible for an additional multi-site bonus grant of $6,000 per location to add infrastructure to additional sites within a 12-month period up. The maximum additional grant amount is $24,000.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association announced the latest round of grants which included two biodiesel terminals: Northwest Ethanol Supply at Orange City and Five Star Coop at Mason City. Three biodiesel retailers also received infrastructure grants: Oak Street Station LLC, Inwood; Galva Holstein Ag LLC, Holstein; and Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores, Newton.

Infrastructure grants were also awarded to retail outlets for four ethanol blender pumps and four E85 pump installations. They were the first blender pumps to receive grants in Iowa.

Changes made to the grant limits this year have sparked increased interest in the program, IRFA managing director Lucy Norton said. "Coupled with the availability of blender pumps, we expect to see more applicants moving forward."

Formed in 2002, the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association represents the state's ethanol and biodiesel producers, as well as fostering the development and growth of the state's renewable fuels industry through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
