VeraSun Energy Corp. announced it wouldn’t pursue biodiesel production in the current economic climate. The company will continue to develop technology to extract corn oil from distillers dried grains, which it would then sell as feedstock to biodiesel producers. VeraSun has begun construction of an oil extraction facility at its ethanol plant in Aurora, S.D. Completion is slated for the fourth quarter of 2008. The company plans to build oil extraction facilities at its ethanol plants in Fort Dodge and Charles City, Iowa, as soon as the permitting processes are complete.
