Seattle-based renewable fuel retailer Propel Biofuels has opened a new B20 fueling location at a Shell gas station in Bellevue, Wash. The new "clean fuel point," as coined by Propel, is the first of its kind on the east side of town. Clean fuel points are unique, stand-alone biodiesel fuel stations that make fueling safe and convenient for local consumers.
The new Bellevue station is a single dispenser, 5,000-gallon station that will be open 24-7, according to Propel Chief Executive Officer and Cofounder Rob Elam. “The reception has been great,” he said. “People want access to clean fuels and that includes consumer, business and government fleets, as well. We’re trying to locate our sites as conveniently as possible to all for easy access.”
In addition to the Bellevue station, Propel intends to install nearly 40 biodiesel pumps in Washington, Oregon and California by the end of this year. Propel currently operates cean fuel points in Kenmore and Ballard. Propel also expects to open a flagship location in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood this spring.
Propel also offers customers CleanDrive, the industry’s first integrated carbon emissions tracking platform. By creating a CleanDrive account with Propel, purchasers of its fuel can get real-time reporting of the volume of carbon emissions reduced by using biodiesel instead of petroleum diesel. CleanDrive graphically displays the positive impacts of biodiesel use in three categories: reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, barrels of oil displaced and equivalent annual carbon dioxide reduction of mature trees.
“We want to connect consumers to these carbon markets and provide them that access through biodiesel where they could buy carbon credits,” Elam said. “That will take time though.”
