More than 450 biofuel producers set to attend FEW

The 2021 International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo (FEW), the ethanol industry's largest conference, will feature more than 150 speakers, next week, July 13-15, in Des Moines, Iowa. More than 450 biofuel producers are set to attend.
The U.S. exported 37,605.6 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of greater than B30 in March, up from 17,149.8 metric tons in February and 30,310 metric tons in March 2020, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service.
The government of Bolivia in March announced plans to construct a biodiesel plant, according to a report filed with the USDA FAS's Global Agricultural Information Network. The company first approved the production of biodiesel in 2019.
The U.S. exported 17,149.8 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater during February, up from 10,717.9 metric tons in February 2020, but down from 31,231.5 metric tons in January, according to data released by USDA on April 7.
Honeywell has announced that Brazil-based ECB Group will use the UOP Ecofining process to convert vegetable oils and inedible animal fats into renewable diesel and jet fuel at the Omega Green production facility in Villeta, near Asuncion, Paraguay.
Cavitation Technologies Inc. announced that Desmet Ballestra Group, CVAT's strategic partner since 2010, has completed a sale agreement for Nano Reactor system with a biodiesel refinery in South America.
Maire Tecnimont, through its subsidiary NextChem and Essential Energy USA Corp., on Feb. 15 executed a front-end engineering design contract as well as a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a renewable diesel plant in South America.
Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc. on Dec. 22 announced the completion of a transoceanic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) test flight from Spain's Zaragoza Airport to Mexico City. The flight was powered by a 2.33 percent blend of SAF.
The U.S. exported 15,634.4 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of greater than B30 in October, down from both 59,904 metric tons in September and 22,259.3 metric tons in October 2019, according to data released by the USDA on Dec. 4.
The Brazilian National Energy Policy Council on Nov. 18 published a resolution that allows imported soybeans and imported soybean oil to be used to produce biodiesel. It is unclear how long the resolution will remain in force.
The global biofuels industry has been strongly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report released by the International Energy Agency in early November, with production down approximately 11.6 percent when compared to 2019.
The U.S. Department of Commerce on Oct. 9 announced it is rescinding the administrative review of the antidumping duty order on biodiesel from Argentina for the period of review April 1, 2019, through March 31, 2020.

Colombia's production and use of biofuels is expected to fall this year due to impacts associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The country's biofuel imports are also expected to fall, according to a report filed with the USDA FAS GAIN.

Ethanol industry award winners to be recognized during FEW

Doug Tiffany and Doug Durante, the respective winners of the International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo's Award of Excellence and High-Octane Award, will deliver acceptance speeches at the virtual FEW on Sept. 16.
The Brazilian government announced on Aug. 13 that the blend requirement for biodiesel sold at the pump will be temporarily lowered from 12 percent to 10 percent for the months of September and October.
U.K.-based biodiesel technology and equipment supplier Green Fuels and Germany-based innovative oil and carbon solutions provider INOCAS GmbH are working together to develop a sustainable fuels value chain in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Nuseed Ltd. has executed a commercial offtake agreement with Saipol, the largest biodiesel producer in Europe, to supply Nuseed Carinata as a feedstock for certified low carbon oil for renewable fuels and high-protein, non-GMO meal.

Renewable diesel drives growth in biomass-based diesel imports

U.S. imports of biomass-based diesel grew 26 percent in 2019 to more than 27,000 barrels per day, ending two years in a row of decline. Imports increased in 2019 because of the increase in renewable diesel imports from Singapore.
The April FAO price index for vegetable oils slipped 7.2 points, or 5.2 percent, compared to the previous month, to 131.8 points. This was the lowest level since August 2019 and also the third decline in three months running.
In its final determination of the “changed circumstances review� of AD and CVD orders on imports of Argentine biodiesel, the U.S. commerce department determined that there are no “changed circumstances� that would warrant changes in U.S. duty rates.
2020 FEW moved to Omaha, date changed to Aug. 24-26

BBI International has moved the 2020 International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo and co-located Biodiesel Production Technology Summit to Omaha Aug. 24-26 due to COVID-19. The events were originally scheduled to be held in Minneapolis this June.

The minimum content of biodiesel in Brazil's diesel fuel went from 11 to 12 percent March 1, as established by regulations to increase by 1 percent a year until hitting 15 percent in March 2023. In September, bio content went from 10 to 11 percent.
